Our checker has run hundreds of thousands of name combinations across 20+ platforms. These are names where the handle pool is still surprisingly open.
The pattern
Names that consistently score 90+ on availability tend to share two features: an unusual spelling (one letter off the common version) or a 4-letter compact form. The Top-50 SSA names are almost entirely gone; the long tail is where availability lives.
A starter list
- Eowyn — Tolkien revival but still under the radar
- Mirin — Japanese-coded, soft, very open
- Sable — fashion-leaning, .com is often free
- Oaklin — nature-coded variant of Oakley
- Veda — Sanskrit, three letters, scarce-but-available
- Cyprian — historic Christian name making a quiet return
- Sorin — Romanian, used by Game of Thrones fans
- Ilse — Dutch/German, four letters
- Kestrel — bird name, niche
- Vesper — evening-themed, distinctly available
How to use this list
These are starting points, not final picks. Run the exact spelling, plus the variant your family is leaning toward, in the username checker and compare. A two-second difference in availability between "Sorin" and "Soren" can save you years of regret.
The bigger lesson
If you're flexible on a single letter or willing to add a meaningful middle name, you reopen the entire universe of available handles. The shortlist your family chooses on Friday should be a checker-validated shortlist by Saturday.
